Lance Armstrong

The breaking news are coming from Texas today. Lance Armstrong is going to miss a couple of swimming championships now, because the  there has been objections raised from swimming’s international federation body, which prohibits him to participate in the Masters South Central Zone Swimming Championships that are schedule to happen at the University of Texas on this weekend, 7-9 April. Armstrong was planning to  compete in three different events there.

The news has been announced by Rob Butcher, U.S. Masters Swimming Executive Director. The issue is quite complicated and controversial as Lance Armstrong is known for being banned for life from cycling. As the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has caught him using the drugs, which were not permitted in cycling. As things settled, no one has paid  much interest to what Armstrong was doing until he remembered that he is als a member of U.S. Masters Swimming and should get a chance to compete in his age group (40-44), due to the fact that master’s event is not the part of USADA drug testing results.

Surely, that rose some negativity in FINA, so they demanded his exclusion. The decision has been made, and the former seven-time Tour de France champion has withdrawn himself from the competition. After Armstrong has suffered many denials since he has confirmed the usage of forbidden drugs and steroids. This time, it has caused him a possible success in swimming. It was triathlon he was banned from previous time. The question is, should Armstrong still suffer from the mistakes he did in the past or maybe it is the time to forgive him and give him the chance to practice sport again.
